Bank Notes
Day 3 - Friday 8 of May
It was sad walking into 214 William Street knowing that it was the last day of Bank Notes – over the Wednesday and Thursday seeing bands try their best in trying conditions to produce good work was the privilege of us and randoms who ranged from homeless shelter-looking middle aged men to groups of those “shuffler” kids. But the fact that the guys rostered on for the Friday session were some of our favourite young musicians turned our frowns upside down. Astral Travel played two our of favourites from their set and a new one, which has a rather amusing blooper at the end of it, while Will Hooper from Windwaker held up singer Amber Gempton’s lyric sheet. Wind Waker shocked and pleased a group of year 12 kids who burst into the building right before they started, and Carbuncle brought a drumming circle who turned the Bank’s hardwood floors into one big drum. Carbuncle, like Cobilis Hudson, played just the one song during their time, but it was one helluva song, an epic number with around 10 different movements that told stories about monsters and making life good. We can think of no better sentiment on which to end one of the most fun, most interesting, and most inspiring projects we’ve been a part of. It made us want to go out and punch down a mountain.
